Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn in “Roman Holiday” (1953).
- So I’ve spent the night here? With you?
- I don’t know if I’d use those words exactly but er, from a certain angle…yes.
One of Rae’s biggest fears is being stared at. That fear that someone will not only verbally but mentally pass judgement. It’s a fear a lot of people identify with. The feeling that people are thinking the worst of you just because of the way you look. Then Finn comes into her life and with every look he gives her, he expresses something completely different than what she is used to. His faces radiates something she never thought she would get from a boy or ever felt she was worthy of receiving. Finn looks at her with so much kindness, care, understanding, admiration, tenderness, want, and love. It’s so beautiful to see how something as simple as a look or a stare from him, can mean so much more than just that for her.
Winning that ticket, Rose, was the best thing that ever happened to me… it brought me to you. And I’m thankful for that, Rose. I’m thankful. You must do me this honor. Promise me you’ll survive. That you won’t give up, no matter what happens, no matter how hopeless. Promise me now, Rose, and never let go of that promise.
